Property on the Costa del Sol – Nerja Once a small fishing village Nerja is now the biggest resort to the east of Malaga, it has managed to avoid the worst effects of unrestrained expansion and high rise hotels. At the easterly end of the region, only 50 kms from Malaga and within one hour from Granada you can enjoy yourself to the full all year round and take advantage of the relaxed way of life of a town that still retains much of the character of its Moorish past. Today Nerja offers everything the discerning holiday maker could wish for. All restaurants and bars are within easy walking distance. Torecilla beach is just a short stroll across the road. Lovers of the open air can enjoy the wonderful countryside in the area, for those who seek alternative activities on their holiday, there is fishing, diving, water skiing, canoeing, hiking, cycling, horse riding and parascending and of course there is golf at Anoreta golf course. There are 9 kms of beaches including the internationally famous Burriana beach that has once again been awarded the blue flag of the European Union. The small coves below the impressive cliffs have been the inspiration of numerous artists whom have set up residence there. In the town there are typically small shops offering local produce of the area, including sweet wine, olive oil, honey and various tropical fruits. On the beach there are fish restaurants where you can enjoy the local "pescaito frito" (fried fish). There are also a wide range of international restaurants in town which offer a variety of menus to suit all tastes. The historic centre of Nerja was constructed around 1487. At the Calahonda gap the Pasea de Carabineros begins a scenic path that winds its way through the rocks bordering the seashore and leads to Burriana beach to the left and winds its way to the right along the coast line, a fantastic walk or jog path with views second to none. The Hall of the Waterfall, which is the scene for the Festival of the Caves, held in July. And the Hall of the Cataclysm, whose fallen rocks indicate an earthquake long ago are the centrepiece and the Hall of Cataclysm is the central column, formed when a stalactite and stalagmite met and joined after thousands of years of growth. It is the tallest of its kind in the world at some 32 metres. Traditional Spanish style homes and cottages as well as villas and tasteful apartments can be found here for rental or purchase. |
