Cartagena is the main port in Murcia. It was founded by the Cartaginians in 211BC and was originally named Cathago Nova. The museum houses some very fine pre Roman and Roman antiquities and is testament to the history of the city. This town was for more than two thousand years a strategic Mediterranean port, surrounded by fortifications it has many fine archaeological remains and naval archives.

The town museum has a good collection of Roman and pre-Roman artefacts.

La Manga is a beach resort located near Cartagena in the Murcia region, south-east of Spain.

Apart from the museum other places of note are the Torre Ciega-blind tower, which is an ancient Roman burial ground dating from the beginning of the 1st century.
