Caravaca de la Cruz is a small city and situated approximately 625ft above sea level, in the mountainous to the northwest region of Murcia in southern Spain.

Caravaca de la Cruz is also the fifth holiest city in the world after Santiago de Compostela, Santo Toribio de Liébana, Rome and Jerusalem. Moratalla is 14km to the north of Caravaca de la Cruz and has a number of ruins, a church, a convent and a variety of wildlife.

Calasparra has rice paddies surrounding the sanctuary of Nuestra Senora de la Esperanza, which is out of solid rock and is a well known place of pilgrimage.
